Call for Artists: Terrible Beasts

The next multi-artist release from Banner Year Press will be entitled TERRIBLE BEASTS and will focus on quickly-drawn, unreferenced, funny, scrawled, doodled, ham-fisted, loose drawings of taxidermied animals. Thatʼs right, poorly-drawn taxidermied animals.

But, why? Well, BYP head honcho, BT Livermore, has found himself doodling copious amounts of taxidermy in his sketchbook lately, which is odd because his biggest fear is that he will be one day be crushed by the stuffed head of a large forest mammal (seriously). Help BT face his fears head on by doodling him some TERRIBLE BEASTS. The final book will have black and white, photocopied interiors, and a multi-color, screenprinted cover. The idea is to cram as many drawings as possible into a small, jam-packed, but still inexpensive book.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

-- 300dpi, grayscale TIF image of poorly drawn taxidermy. No larger than 4 inches square
-- Do NOT include a background in your image or submit an image that bleeds off any edge of the 4 inch square maximum. We JUST want drawings of dead, stuffed animals (anything from a single body part or head, all the way to full body “action” poses are acceptable). You may also include any other miscellanea of taxidermy, such as plaques, stands, boxes, or anything you may want your animal to wear (a moose with sunglasses for example).
-- Please do not include anything else in your image that does not fit with the preceding guideline.
-- No more than THREE submissions per artist, please!

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: November 25th, 2010

By submitting an image for TERRIBLE BEASTS, you are granting Banner Year Press the rights to publish it in the book, and to use it and your name for promotion of the book. You retain all other rights to your image. As the final pages will be a mishmash of different drawings, all contributing artists will be credited at the end of the book, not next to his or her specific drawing. We plan to include as many submissions as possible but do reserve the right to jury the submissions if deemed necessary. SUBMITTING TO TERRIBLE BEASTS DOES NOT GUARANTEE THAT YOUR IMAGE WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE FINAL BOOK.

Due to the number of artists included in the book, Banner Year Press cannot afford to provide a free copy to each contributing artist, however, a reduced artist price will be offered upon publication. A few of the submissions may be included on the cover or endpapers of the final book. Those artists will receive a complimentary copy. Please do not submit your image with this in mind.

In your submission email, please include your name as you wish it to be listed in the book, and a website URL if youʼd like that credited as well. You do not need to return this agreement form.
